The 2017 ACCUHO StarRez Conference is being held at the Hotel Grand Chancellor, Hobart, from Monday 8 to Thursday 11 May. With the theme of Communicate, Collaborate, Celebrate! it is sure to be an event not to be missed!

The Conference kicks off with a pre-conference Study Tour beginning in Melbourne on Wednesday 3 May, with visits to a number of student residences and tourist attractions in and around Melbourne, before an overnight journey across Bass Strait on board the Spirit of Tasmania, for a 2-day tour of the island state before arriving in Hobart for a one day tour of the Island Capital, prior to the commencement of the conference. Optional Activities – Wednesday 10 May 2017

The following optional activities are available for Wednesday afternoon, registration for these optional activities is part of the conference registration process.

MONA, the Museum of Old and New Art - $55 per person 

Bus departs Hotel at 1:30pm, and returns at 5:30pm

MONA is the largest privately funded museum in Australia. The museum is located within the Moorilla winery on the Berriedale Peninsula in Hobart, Explore the museum, brewery, winery and vineyards, and take in the beautiful surrounds of the estate.  Optional winery cellar door tour at 3:30pm for an additional $15.00 - Book here.

Bus Trip to Mount Wellington - $40 per person

Bus departs Hotel at 1:30pm, and returns at 4:00pm

This tour will take you to the 'roof top' of Hobart. The summit of Mt Wellington is 1,270 metres above sea level and being the highest point around Hobart it offers unsurpassed views taking in half of Tasmania! Enroute your tour guide will reveal the history of Hobart and Mt Wellington. An intimate insight into the connection between the people of Hobart and its mountain (includes time at the summit).

Salamanca Walking Tour - $35 per person

1:30pm - 3:30pm

Looking for a walk that takes you on a journey back in time? Then why not join this walking tour. Located in Salamanca Hobart, this guided walk is an excellent way to see the best of Hobart’s Salamanca precinct and to learn about Hobart's history.

Whisky Tour - $40 per person

3:00pm - 5:00pm

Lark Cellar Door and Whisky Bar is situated on Hobart’s waterfront, if you’re a whisky lover there is no better place to taste Tasmania’s finest whisky and other distilled spirits in a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Getting there

There are four airlines that fly to Hobart: Qantas, Virgin Australia, Jetstar and Tiger Airways; which is just over an hours' flight from Melbourne and less than two hours’ flight from Sydney.  Hobart city centre is just 15 minutes (17 kilometres) from the airport. 

Airport transfers via shuttle bus, taxi, coach, chauffeured car or limousine are reasonably priced and readily available. Transfer via amphibious seaplane is also available.

Delegates can also travel daily from Melbourne to Devonport on the Spirit of Tasmania ferry with their car (and then drive to Hobart – 3hrs 30min) providing the perfect opportunity for pre and post touring.

Getting around 

The conference venue is in easy walking distance of shops, restaurants and attractions.  Quality transport providers are readily available for large groups.  Public transport in the form of taxis, ferries and buses is reliable and of a high quality.
